After a storm
After hail: what to do first, and what we do
You are in charge of every decision. We inspect, photograph and write an estimate you can share.
- 01You
Step 1: Photograph and protect
From the ground, photograph the roof, gutters, vents, siding and any ceiling stains. Keep receipts. Cover only what is leaking, with a tarp or plastic.
- 02We
Step 2: Call us when you are ready
We set a day for an inspection. We don't go door to door, and we don't ask for a signature at the inspection.
- 03We
Step 3: We inspect the whole roof
Ground walk, roof or drone, attic. Each slope is photographed, and each finding is placed on a roof diagram.
- 04We
Step 4: You get the findings
Written findings and photos, with a plain recommendation: repair, replace or leave it. They are yours to keep and to show your insurer.
- 05You
Step 5: You decide whether to file
Your policy, your insurer and your deductible are yours. If you ask, we meet your adjuster at the house to show what we found.
Oklahoma rules
Where we stand, in writing
These are our rules. Oklahoma law says several of them for roofers. A lawyer should read your contract if you have questions about it.
The deductible is yours
Oklahoma law bars a roofer from advertising or promising to waive, absorb or take care of your insurance deductible. We never offer to, and we ask you to walk away from anyone who does.
We are not public adjusters
We do not negotiate your claim or speak for you to your insurer. We inspect, photograph and write an itemized estimate.
72 hours to cancel after a denial
If your insurer denies the claim in writing, Oklahoma gives you 72 hours to cancel a roofing contract signed for that claim. The notice is printed on the contract in 12-point bold with a form you can tear off.
Our registration number is on everything
Our state roofing registration is on the estimate, the contract and the top bar of this site. You can look it up on the state's site before you sign.
Nothing is signed at the door
We don't knock on doors after a storm. If anyone does, take their name and registration number, and call the board.
Temporary repairs only until the adjuster sees it
A tarp is fine. A new roof, before your adjuster has seen the damage, is not.
Storm questions
What should I do right after a hailstorm?
Photograph the damage from the ground, keep your receipts, make only temporary repairs such as a tarp over a leak, and tell your insurer. Call us for an inspection when you are ready, and we can be at the house when your adjuster comes if you ask.
How do I know if my roof has hail damage?
Bruised or cracked shingles, granule loss in round patches, and dents in vents, gutters and flashing. Some of it can't be seen from the ground, so we look at the roof and take photos of what we find and where.
Will my insurance pay for my roof?
For sudden damage from hail or wind, subject to your policy; not for wear, age or poor upkeep. A replacement-cost policy and an actual-cash-value policy pay differently, and the deductible stays with you. Your insurer decides, and your agent can explain your policy.
Can a roofer cover my deductible?
No. The deductible is yours to pay, and Oklahoma law bars roofers from offering to waive, absorb or rebate it. A roofer who offers is putting your contract at risk.
What about roofers who knock on my door after a storm?
Take their name and their Oklahoma registration number and look the number up with the state before you sign anything. Do not sign over your insurance rights, and do not agree to anything the same day. We don't go door to door.
Can I cancel after I sign?
If you sign at home, you may have 3 business days to cancel. If you signed a roofing contract for an insurance claim and your insurer denies the claim in writing, Oklahoma gives you 72 hours to cancel. The notice is printed on the contract and we go over it with you.
Request a roof inspection
A crew lead will call you to set a day. There is nothing to sign at the inspection.
